IDEA School of Design Welcomes Langara College Design Formation Grads to Second Year

Capilano University and Langara College announce new pathway partnership for Design in Visual Communication degree.

Capilano University and Langara College are pleased to announce a partnership to establish a pathway for Langara graduates to complete a bachelor degree at CapU in less than three years of full-time study. The partnership allows graduates of Langara’s Design Formation Diploma to transfer to CapU and complete a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication.

Pathway: Langara Design Formation Diploma → CapU Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication

“Capilano University’s Bachelor of Design grads are sought after in the marketplace,” says Carol Aitken, chair of the IDEA School of Design at Capilano University. “This pathway allows Langara College graduates to further develop their design skills and become industry-ready; it also helps address the supply needs of B.C.’s booming creative economy.”

Langara’s Design Formation Program is a two-year, multidisciplinary foundational design program that offers entry-level training and prepares students for more specialized study. The CapU Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication is a comprehensive baccalaureate degree offered by the University’s IDEA School of Design with concentrations in branding, illustration and interactive design.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Langara College students and graduates,” says Scot Geib, chair of the Department of Design Formation at Langara College. “This partnership opens the door to more specialized training for our students and deepens their knowledge of the design industry.”

CapU and Langara are collaborating to enhance student mobility by facilitating a significant block transfer agreement. Because Langara’s Design Formation graduates will earn 31 credits towards the Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication (BDes), they will be able to graduate from the BDes in as few as three years when studying full time.
