Happy Year of the Dragon from IDEA School of Design! Shown above “To Celebrate the Lunar Year” illustration by Charlie Wongpisethkul (IDEA Grad 2026).
At Lunar New Year, it’s tradition for married people to give the gift of a bright, beautiful red envelope (known as 紅包, hóngbāo) to single friends and family.
“This set of illustrations depict the aspects of Lunar New Year celebrations from dress, to food, to decorations. The illustrations are originally sketched digitally before being transferred and painted with gouache onto the hong bao, or red envelopes,” writes Charlie Wongpisethkul.
