Sharleen Ramos (IDEA21) wins Jim Rimmer Scholarship for Recycle My Electronics Advertising Campaign

Huge congratulations to Sharleen Ramos (IDEA Grad 2021) for winning the Jim Rimmer Community Scholarship for Design Award with her advertising campaign Recycle My Electronics. Check out her award-winning student advertising project!

About Recycle My Electronics Advertising Campaign

The idea for the Recycle My Electronics Campaign (Transit Mockup shown above) is to visually communicate that there is a connection between gorillas and electronics. Conflict mining of rare minerals used in electronics impacts habitat, climate and increases corruption and conflict in the Congo. A graphic style was chosen to help see the shapes and components arranged as a fusion of electronics and gorillas.

Huge congratulations to our two Jim Rimmer $1,000 Scholarship recipients, Emma Sato (IDEA Grad 2022) and Sharleen Ramos (IDEA Grad 2021). The judges said there were over 40 entries from Vancouver schools, and only two winners.
— Carol Aitken, Chair & Co-Coordinator, Bachelor of Design
Winners of the Jim Rimmer Community Scholarship for Design Award were announced Friday, November 29, 2019 at PRACTIVISM X: Igniting Societal Change Through Design presented by the Graphic Designers of Canada (BC Chapter) and held at Emily Carr. The judges were so impressed by the amount of effort and depth of thinking that they had to extend their deliberations on the 40+ entries this year.
