IDEA School of Design Illustration Instructor and Practicum Supervisor Ben Frey will be showcasing new illustrations in a solo print show at Slice of Life Gallery at the end of November. “Keep Your Cool” runs from November 30th - December 5th, 2023, with an opening reception on Thursday, November 30th from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm.

It’s been an award-winning year for instructor Dominique Walker
Congratulations to IDEA School of Design instructor, Dominique Walker!
In May 2021, Walker placed 2nd in the Peace and Trust exhibition at the FCA with her painting ‘Siblings’. In October, she placed 3rd in the Nature Trust of BC, Artist of the Year Exhibition with ‘Brady’s Beach Sea Stack’. This was followed by a 1st place win in the Federation’s 80th Anniversary Exhibition with ‘Nasturtiums’ and an honourable mention in the Artist’ Choice Exhibition this February for ‘Skaha Lake Trestle’ (shown above).

Four IDEA School of Design students selected for Jeff Burgess' annual summer mentorship
Visual artist, illustrator, and educator, Jeff Burgess mentors four IDEA School of Design students in his studio one day a week over the summer. The students participating this summer are Sophie Young, Aidan Zecchel, Alison Johnstone and Charise Wang. We visited his studio in the early weeks to capture some images of the work being created and interview the students. We hope you enjoy!

Zoë Evamy’s summer exhibition "Hidden worlds we share", water media paintings of landscapes and birds is up at The Old School House Art Centre, Qualicum Beach until June 22, 2019. Framed poster prints of the 8 bird paintings are up at the Sea to Sky Gondola Summit Lodge until July 30, 2019.

Alberta born Cree artist, George Littlechild came to spend the morning with us as part 2 of a wonderful collaboration with aboriginal students and faculty at Capilano University. He asked the class to use their intuition to create an image, or symbol that represented them: something that would touch their souls and bring them comfort.
