Evelyn Chua (IDEA Grad 2020) wins 2020 ADCC Student Competition Finalist in Graphic Design with 'SURPLUS – Produce Delivered'

Congratulations to Evelyn Chua (IDEA Grad 2020) for winning 2020 Advertising & Design Club of Canada (ADCC) Student Competition Finalist in Graphic Design with 'SURPLUS – Produce Delivered'.

The objective of this student graphic design project is to make affordable organic produce directly from local farms to families across the Lower Mainland.

Inspired by ‘imperfect’ produce, SURPLUS encourages consumers to reconsider what is ‘ugly’ in appearance doesn’t affect the produces’ taste and texture. This is showcased in the colourful pattern featuring ugly produce that’s shown throughout the brand’s assets.

Project Description

In Canada, almost 400 kg of food per person is wasted every year. This costs the average household $1,766 a year.

SURPLUS delivers affordable organic produce directly from local farms to families across the Lower Mainland. This delivery service supports local and Canadian producers by providing a new market for surplus production.

Challenge

The challenge of this project is to combat food waste by positioning how ugly imperfect produce is more than what is on the outside while making fresh groceries affordable.

Part of their delivery service includes recipe cards showing how to best utilize their fruits and vegetables to avoid excess food waste.

Role: Branding, Illustration, UI Design
Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch, Invision
Student Project Duration: 4 months
