Janelle Momotani (IDEA Grad 2022) wins 2020 ADCC Student Competition Finalist in Graphic Design with 'Crickies Cookies'

Congratulations to Janelle Momotani (IDEA Grad 2022) for winning 2020 Advertising & Design Club of Canada (ADCC) Student Competition Finalist in Graphic Design with 'Crickies Cookies'.

This project was for IDEA School of Design IDES 249 Brand Identity with instructor Dominique Walker.

Project Description

Crickies is a fictional brand based in Vancouver that produces protein cookies made with cricket flour. Although 80% of the world’s population consider insects as a part of their diet, it is not a common food in North America. Crickies focuses on getting people to incorporate more sustainable proteins into their everyday diet, fulfilling their protein needs as well as cravings for a delicious treat.

The objective of the packaging is to make the idea of cricket protein more appealing to consumers. The packaging is made from recyclable cardboard with extra thought put into the way the box unfolds so the cookie can be taken on the go while keeping the crumbs in the pocket.

The illustrations are executed in a graphic and simple style to resonate with the teenage and young adult target audience, with each of the three flavours having their own illustration that represents some of the main ingredients.

The typography showcases trendy sans-serif fonts that focus on making the information and hierarchy clear while also contributing to the overall modern look.

The grid layout on the back breaks up the nutritional information into smaller sections so that the text is easily digestible and not overwhelming.

The complete package was thoughtfully designed to stand out on store shelves.
