Congratulations to Aidan Zecchel (IDEA Grad 2021) for winning the 2020 Jim Rimmer Scholarship with 'Level the Playing Field', a campaign aimed to raise awareness around the challenges of youth homelessness. Aidan is currently completing his studies at IDEA School of Design at Capilano University.

About the Project

During my third year at IDEA, I had the supreme good fortune of doing a mentorship project with Jake Hope at Rethink Communications. Our program emphasizes the importance of quantity in concept generation but at Rethink, it’s the way of life. “Keep going” is what I’d hear at every check-in and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the different entry points for this campaign. As students, we don't have budgets and agency resources to help us execute our projects, but embracing those constraints forces us to get creative. Soon school will be over, and we won't have as much freedom to take chances with our projects so I encourage you to get it while you can! I came out of the experience with some valuable intel into the world of art direction and an appetite for more conceptual thinking.

The Jim Rimmer Community Scholarship for Design Award is awarded annually to students whose project supports a community program, social cause, non-profit, or an environmental or social cause.

The Jim Rimmer Community Scholarship for Design Award is an opportunity for students to submit a completed project (or one currently in progress) for a community program, a non-profit, or an environmental or social cause. Students who are currently enrolled in a design program in British Columbia or who have graduated within the past year are eligible. Scholarships will be awarded on the strength the solution, and how effectively it communicates a message, benefits a community, affects action and promotes change.
