Welcome to IDEA Campus!
Your online, MS Teams-based, community to connect with peers and faculty. If we can’t paint the walls, let’s colour the web! All students and faculty are encouraged to become active members of this team: to build community, share announcements and resources.
Microsoft Teams
— Course Content
Starting fall 2020, all IDEA School of Design courses will require a dedicated Microsoft Teams classroom. Course Teams will be setup by your instructor and enrolment is invitation based - just login to teams and your courses will appear on the dashboard/menu. All course content and assignments will be delivered/submitted on teams. All communication will occur on teams - avoid email unless instructed.
Teams Onboarding
Please completed the following tasks to get started with Teams, before the term begins:
Install the teams app on your device. You can also access teams online with limited functionality. Tip: desktop app is essential for everyday use and mobile app is great for notifications.
Login with your CapU email/username and password.
Watch: Teams for the first time. Take a look at the teams you are currently apart of including, IDEA Campus.
Bonus video: working with classes/classmates in Microsoft Teams
Zoom
— Video Conferencing
Video conferencing for your courses will occur on Zoom (a better group alternative to teams video). Each instructor will post details on how to join the video call along with a course schedule.
*You are still able to use teams video to chat with peers.
Zoom Onboarding
Follow these instructions to create a CapU zoom account. Login with your CapU email/username and password.
Install zoom on your desktop for the best experience. (The mobile app is a backup option to join lectures but makes screen sharing hard). *Do this before your first scheduled class to test audio/video.
Watch: Zoom for students.
Optional: Complete this LinkedIn learning module and earn a certificate — which you can include on your CV and LinkedIn page.
Why did we choose Teams & Zoom?
Our goal as a faculty was twofold:
To deliver a consistent online experience for our students — so they can focus on learning not navigating.
Keep it relevant to industry. Use tools that students will likely use in the workplace.
We are also working hard to ensure the use of FIPPA compliant services. The CapU Microsoft 365 suite is safe and compliant. We encourage students to keep working with Microsoft based apps vs. services like google. If you are interested, learn more about your personal information rights checkout FIPPA and PIPEDA - after all, you will be the designers of the future.
