Cheyenne Manning wins You Can Now (YCN) design award to future proof tomorrow’s learners

Congratulations to IDEA School of Design Grad 18 student, Cheyenne Manning, for her You Can Now (YCN) design award. The challenge of the brief was to visually communicate the importance of learning - to future proof tomorrow’s learners. The next YCN annual will feature all the winning pieces.

Cheyenne created an app called Mentoo for the YWCA Mentorship Program in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, and a series of lively ads promoting the program. The app fits with the YWCA‘s “... holistic, integrated programs and services, [that] help lift women and families out of poverty, provide the best start for children and create new opportunities for education, employment and leadership.”

The app is easy to use and allows youth to create a profile and apply for a mentorship in their local area. Cheyenne also designed an accompanying website.

One of the great things that resonated with me about YCN was the variety of problems (briefs) available for entrants to solve. I think this gives students a great opportunity to be flexible with their submissions. You can submit for more than one brief too. One of the challenges was tailoring my existing project to fit the brief. What it really comes down to is not just how your project solves the problem but how it will benefit the client and its target audience in the long-term. I’d highly suggest entering, as a winning submission gets featured in their annual and winners are invited to their ceremony in London.
