Noah Kawamura (IDEA Grad 2020) wins RGD SoGood Student Award with 'XChange Campaign'

Noah Kawamura (IDEA Grad 2020) wins RGD SoGood Student Award with 'XChange Campaign'

Congratulations to Noah Kawamura (IDEA Grad 2020) for winning the RGD SoGood Student Award with his 'XChange Campaign'.

This campaign was created to increase youth voter turnout and incite a lasting political dialogue among youth. The campaign turns the issues that youth care about into ballots by using graffitied Xs that reframe voting as boldly taking a stand on an issue. The Xs connote passionate, free-thinking and rebellious youth. Keeping in mind the audience, the campaign assets were applied across a variety of media, with a special focus on social media. The XChange campaign challenges those who see it to act.

Problem

Young Canadians have a low voter turnout. XChange needed a brand and campaign that connected voting with young people’s lives.

Solution

Connecting issues to ballots. This digital-focused brand and campaign imposes your X directly onto the issues that matter.

Student Designer: Noah Kawamura

RGD Mentors: Gae Wakabayashi, Zoë Evamy

Noah possesses both a collaborative spirit and an autonomous drive. I was always excited to see how he had synthesized the feedback and problem-solved through the process each week. Strong conceptually and beautiful, thoughtful styling. Great work, Noah!

About The RGD

Through the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (the RGD), Canadian designers exchange ideas, educate and inspire, set professional standards and build a strong, supportive community dedicated to advocating for the value of design.

Representing over 4,100 design professionals, including firm owners, freelancers, managers, educators and students, the RGD was created in 1996 by an Act of the Ontario Legislature (Bill Pr 56) and is the only graphic design association in North America to have this type of legislation.

The Certified RGD designation is a signal of quality and competence to the profession, public and government. Successful candidates have met a rigorous set of standards that includes documented levels of relevant, professional education and experience as well as competence in the areas of business, design principles, research, accessible design and ethics demonstrated through the successful completion of the RGD’s certification process.

Our vision is for a graphic design profession that is broadly valued for its contribution to life, commerce and society.

The So(cial) Good Design Awards is an international design competition that celebrates the power of design to do good. RGD launched the annual So(cial) Good Design Awards competition in 2013. IDEA alum Diana Castaneda, Senior Graphic Designer at TRIUMF was on the judging panel.
