First year students (IDEA Grad 2025) created their own Swissted Band Posters in Survey and Principles of Design

First year students (IDEA Grad 2025) created their own modernist take on band posters in IDES 142 — Survey and Principles of Design with Vida Jurcic.

It was their chance to learn the ins and outs of Illustrator while having some fun with colour, type and geometric shapes.

Check out some of the top projects!

“Cavetown” Band Poster in the Swiss Style by Angela Aguilar (IDEA Grad 2025)

When creating this poster, my main goal was to reinforce Cavetown’s indie pop genre, but to also reflect his songs’ deeper meanings behind his warm, acoustic ballads. I achieved this through colour and repetition — creating a visual that would draw the viewer in as one would be by his music.

“Miles Davis” Gig Poster in the Swiss Style by Chris R. (IDEA Grad 2025)

My intention was to create a visual representation of the structure of early modal jazz music. You see the patterned bit is like "the head" in jazz music where everyone plays the "tune" and to the right the patterns explodes in complexity and colour which represents the "solo section" of the tune. It's a visual tip of the hat to Miles Davis' music.

“Sirotkin” Band Poster in the Swiss Style by Liza Borissova (IDEA Grad 2025)

This Swissted poster was the first assignment for Survey & Principles of Design II. I made this poster for my favourite Russian band “Sirotkin.” I wanted to convey calmness and melancholy using lilac shades, rounded geometric shapes, and red accents to help express strong but really peaceful emotions.
