Kathrin Teh (IDEA Grad 2023) wins Applied Arts 2020 Student Award with 'Kyoto' Shopping Bag Design
Congratulations to Kathrin Teh (IDEA Grad 2023) for winning Applied Arts 2020 Student Award with 'Kyoto' Shopping Bag Design (shown above).
Process
After receiving this brief, I immediately knew I wanted to design something that would emulate the playful nature present throughout Japan's graphic design. After many sketches, I settled on this fun rendition of the name Kyoto, having the type reflect a face looking up, to represent the faces of tourists themselves as they explore all Kyoto has to offer.
This was for Vida's first year course Survey and Principles of Design II (IDES 142).
