Shruti Karthikeyan (IDEA BDes Grad 2025) wins Top 10 in CAPIC Rodeo 16 Student Illustration Contest with 'The Introspect'

Congratulations to Shruti Karthikeyan (IDEA BDes Grad 2025) for winning the Top 10 in the CAPIC Rodeo 16 student contest for Illustration with “The Introspect” (shown above).

Many congratulations to Capilano University's IDEA School of Design students who continue to dominate the CAPIC student awards in illustration!

Check out this award-winning student illustration project!

I created this portrait for my friend Rajan, who has always had a quiet, reflective demeanor. One day, while we were at the bus loop at CapU, I happened to have my Canon camera from class with me. As he was looking into the sun, I captured the shot, which I later used as a reference for this illustration.

Though I could have painted traditionally, I wanted to challenge myself and see how far I could take this digitally. Using Procreate, I combined a variety of paint brushes to create this portrait.
