Shruti Karthikeyan (IDEA BDes Grad 2025) wins Top 10 in CAPIC Rodeo 16 Student Illustration Contest with 'The Plague’s Fury'

Congratulations to Shruti Karthikeyan (IDEA BDes Grad 2025) for winning the Top 10 in the CAPIC Rodeo 15 student contest for Illustration with “The Plague’s Fury” (shown above).

Many congratulations to Capilano University's IDEA School of Design students who continue to dominate the CAPIC student awards in illustration!

Check out this award-winning student illustration project!

This illustration was created for IDES 235 Illustration Studio with Pascal Milelli. The assignment was to choose a book that could benefit from a new illustrative treatment for its cover. Since Inferno by Dan Brown is one of my favourite books, I decided to redesign its cover.

The story revolves around a plague on the verge of spreading across the world, so I incorporated famous landmarks into the design, with flames slowly consuming them. After 28 rounds of brainstorming, I arrived at this final illustration, which was rendered in Procreate.
