2013 Grads, Caitlyn Neufeld and Kira Campbell talk about their positions at Kaldor Brand Strategy & Design
2013 graduates Caitlyn Neufeld and Kira Campbell talk about their positions at Kaldor Brand Strategy & Design in a blog entry for The Daily Cap, IDEA students take flight at local firm, posted July 28, 2014.
Now the two junior graphic designers are working on a six-member team whose clients include educational institutions, non-profits and cultural organizations like Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art.
Sally Douglas, the managing director of Kaldor says her company looks for graduates “who are showing real original thinking and conceptual problem-solving, and we avoid people who are following the trend of the day.”
Kira says one thing she appreciated about the IDEA program is that “it teaches you everything about the business side of the business and industry as well as (artistic) skills. With IDEA, you’re also meeting a lot of industry professionals, so you make connections through the program, which definitely helps. It really dives pretty deep into everything else that exists outside the art side of the whole design industry.”
Caitlyn says: "The program is a good reflector of how the industry actually works. The work is very deadline driven, so it’s important that students enjoy those kinds of challenges."
