Danica Koller (IDEA Grad 2020) wins 2020 RGD Zync Award of Excellence for Concept Development with ‘Ellie’ Alzheimer's App Design

Congratulations to Danica Koller (IDEA Grad 2020) for winning the 2020 RGD Zync Award of Excellence for Concept Development with ‘Ellie’ Alzheimer's App. Danica's project also gained RGD's Awards Of Specialty BOLD Awards for Accessible Design Honourable Mention.

Ellie is a multi-device app for caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients to track the symptoms and development of the disease. The caregiver can enter all the data and observations into the app to have all the important information on hand.

Ellie assists people living with Alzheimer’s disease, reassures caregivers, makes daily tasks easier, and helps identify behavioural and mental patterns.
Ellie is a two-platform app that works together to help ease the uncertainties of Alzheimer’s disease while simultaneously reassuring primary caregivers.

Educator Support: Leanna Crawford and Mark Stokoe

Having come from a clearly personal experience, there is a level of knowledge that has helped this person understand what caregiver's really need and what patients go through on a daily basis. From calming colours to navigation, these have been very well-considered and executed. - Pia Nummi, Design Director at Canada Goose, Toronto

About The RGD

Through the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (the RGD), Canadian designers exchange ideas, educate and inspire, set professional standards and build a strong, supportive community dedicated to advocating for the value of design.

Representing over 4,100 design professionals, including firm owners, freelancers, managers, educators and students, the RGD was created in 1996 by an Act of the Ontario Legislature (Bill Pr 56) and is the only graphic design association in North America to have this type of legislation.

The Certified RGD designation is a signal of quality and competence to the profession, public and government. Successful candidates have met a rigorous set of standards that includes documented levels of relevant, professional education and experience as well as competence in the areas of business, design principles, research, accessible design and ethics demonstrated through the successful completion of the RGD’s certification process.

Our vision is for a graphic design profession that is broadly valued for its contribution to life, commerce and society.
