Natasha Lee (IDEA Grad 2024) wins RGD q30 design Award for Brand Design and Premise Award for Strategic Design with Bugbites Granola Brand
Congratulations to Natasha Lee (IDEA Grad 2024) for winning both the RGD q30 design Award for Brand Design and RGD Premise Award for Strategic Design with Bugbites Granola Brand!
“Bugbites is an imaginary cricket granola brand created for the North American market that is constantly looking for new, sustainable products but is particularly squeamish about eating bugs! The goal was to introduce the many benefits of including protein-rich crickets into our diets in a fun and friendly way. The branding addresses the public fear about eating bugs while appealing to their sense of greater good and sustainability.”

IDEA School of Design Alumni in da house! In House Designers: Jennifer Tri Emely, Max Littledale and Diana Castañeda by Judy Snaydon
About 50% of graphic designers spend their time working on projects for multiple clients: they might be designing packaging for vegetarian sausages on Monday, coming up with logo ideas for a new housing development on Wednesday, and redesigning a website for a pharmacy on Friday. The other 50% of graphic designers work in-house. This means that rather than working for an agency or studio that serves many businesses, they work directly for a brand that produces and sells products, or provides services.

First Year (IDEA Grad 2025) Students Explore Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco Designers with Psychedelic Album Cover Designs
In First Year Survey and Principles of Design, there is often a project to parallel the design movement studied. As part of an exercise to understand the "psychedelic" movement, which began in Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco in the mid 1960’s and had an effect, not just on music, but also on many aspects of popular culture, the students created an album cover to reflect the spirit and aesthetic of the genre.

Here are a few 60s album cover projects from IDES 142 Survey and Principles of Design II with Vida Jurcic.
Rachel Caelum (IDEA Grad 2025) loves critiques but putting her work out there makes her a little nervous each time
Meet first-year student, Rachel Caelum (IDEA Grad 2025)! Her self-portrait for IDES 133 - Visual Studio taught by Jay Bassan is shown above.
“I first came across the IDEA School of Design by stalking the multiple class Instagram pages. I love the environment the cohort creates, it’s allowed me to come out of my shell more and grow with like-minded individuals. Getting to try a little bit of everything before choosing your focus area makes a strong multifaceted creator who can keep up in the ever-changing industry.” writes Rachel.
