IDEA students won 14/50 Advertising & Design Club of Canada (ADCC) Student Awards
Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design students won 14/50 Advertising & Design Club of Canada (ADCC) Student Awards this year. Not bad for our first time entering! We didn’t get any golds, but 3 silvers and 11 merits. Shown above: Adventure Bug by Danielle Adams (Graphic Design Silver).

Applied Arts Georges Haroutiun $1500 Scholarships have 3 categories, IDEA19 students won them all!
The Brief: You are helping to brand an urban, mid-priced restaurant called The Harvest Room that prides itself on its changing regional menu with healthy ingredients sourced from local farmers. The clientele is mostly millennials and young families. Giving back to the community is important to The Harvest Room, so it also donates 2% of its total sales to a local food bank and shelter.
The Harvest Room, indeed! IDEA School of Design students Ashley Loo (Design), Charmaine Cheng (Advertising), and Jominca Engelbrecht (Illustration) were all selected by Applied Arts judges as the top winners of the annual $1,500 scholarships! Congrats also to our runner-up, Emily R Powers (Illustration) who won a $1000 scholarship!

Rae Maher (IDEA19) wins $1,000 Jim Rimmer scholarship for poster series on albinism
Many congratulations to Rae Maher, who won a $1,000 Jim Rimmer scholarship last week for her poster series on albinism at the GDC's Type Night in Vancouver. Finalists from IDEA School of Design include Annie Chang, Angela Schmold, Ashley Visvanathan and Charmaine Cheng.
Pamella Pinard and Alice Zeng win 3x3 Illustration Annual No.14 contest
IDEA School of Design students Pamella Pinard (Honorable Mentions) and Alice Zeng (Honorable Mention and Merit) both placed in the prestigious 3x3 Illustration Annual contest. Their illustrations are reproduced in the 3x3 Illustration Annual No.14 shipping November 2017.

IDEA student wins Georges Haroutiun Scholarship
We're very pleased to announce that Grad 16 student Shyronn Smardon won one of three new Applied Arts Georges Haroutiun Scholarships! The $3,000 award (design category) also comes with tickets to the Applied Arts Magazine 30th Anniversary Gala in Toronto where the awards will be presented and work shown in front of Canada’s top industry creatives.

Lexus recently invited students from Canadian schools to design an auto show display for the new Lexus RX 350 SUV. Three IDEA students beat out teams from OCAD and Concordia!

Grad Spotlight: Cristian Fowlie snags a Merit for 3x3: The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration
2015 IDEA graduate Cristian Fowlie just snagged a Merit (for his illustration, “New Energy” and three Honourable Mentions in the international student competition for 3x3: The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration.
